galleryyuhself.tumblr.com

Over the last few weeks I have been preparing a new Tumblr...where do I find the time?! Right? I have wanted to create a booklet on the subject for over ten years now, so I won't pat myself on the back just yet.
This new site is my way of amassing information in an archive format so that when the project really begins. I will not have to go all over the place for what I need.
I had started another blog, galleryyuhself.blogspot.com when I was asked to do an essay and presentation at The University of the West Indies.

galleryyuhself.tumblr.com already is showing me a few things...first of all, I am collecting everything that is available online. In doing this I am relying on memory and on hunches as I explore several approaches.
I am organising the site into islands, with an emphasis on the people, the companies and eventually the created works that produce a certain 'look'.

I have already seen that here in the Caribbean, we are falling into an expected pull and tug of adopting American culture, masked as our own. There is a cliche and a tendency to just go with what is believed to be a Caribbean aesthetic.

Galleryyuhself.blogspot.com shall continue to be the slow runner that moves alongside the flashier, more available site. But it shall be the site where opinion shall be explored to a greater extent, and perhaps, occasionally represented on the Tumblr as well.

THIS BLOG IS NOW A TUMBLR

Starting a new site

http://sexypinkon.tumblr.com/#about

I have been writing about Art for quite some time, and two years ago I  decided to stop writing as much to focus on my own work.
The site was called Sexypink.Wordpress.com. In my effort to keep it going, I gave it over to The Bookmann, and he took great care of it until his death in June, 2010.
Over the years, The Bookmann and I were made aware of how much the site was used by students and other interested readers. We always wanted to create a book on design and by extension, art in Trinidad and Tobago and eventually, the Caribbean. Sexypink was our way of archiving all that we found interesting and unique to our island republic.
Today, sexypinkon.tumblr.com is that re-opening of our shared vision.
It has taken me some time to want to continue again. but I know that The Bookmann would approve.

Question

Hello faithful followers....

I promise that this site shall begin to see some real action soon. However in the mean time, I want your help.

I came up with a series of drawings called 'Bad Babi," some of you may have seen a few of the drawings on Facebook.

I intended on doing them as a bit larger than lifesized paper illustrations to place in Port-of-Spain. I have done this before with a project I called art4dst33t, where I did about fifteen carnival characters on surfaces throughout the carnival route in Port-of-Spain and San Fernando.

My thoughts, should I continue in my wake to do this one off project?

My thoughts are actually moving back and forth between this one off concept and one where I just show the sketches in a gallery space and do a booklet.

Opinions please....
